Gayaa Dhuwi (Proud Spirit) Australia is the national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, and suicide prevention. We work to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples enjoy the highest attainable standard of mental health and wellbeing.

We are seeking a passionate and highly skilled Senior Policy Officer to lead critical policy initiatives that reflect the voices, aspirations, and cultural strengths of our communities. You’ll play a key role in influencing national policy, government decision-making, and driving systemic change – while working alongside a dedicated team driven by purpose, culture, and impact.

What you’ll do:
The Senior Policy Officer – SEWB Policy Partnership plays a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of policies and strategies that improves the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in relation to the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Policy Partnership. You will engage in research, policy analysis, project management and stakeholder consultations to contribute to evidence-based policy recommendations and reports.

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong experience in policy development and systems advocacy (ideally in health, mental health or Indigenous Affairs)

  • Exceptional writing, research, and analysis skills

  • A collaborative, proactive approach with the ability to lead complex projects

  • Cultural competency and a genuine commitment to self-determination
