Through Our Lens Photo Competition 2025

Terms and Conditions 


1. Background

1.1   This photography competition is conducted by the Coalition of Peaks (ABN 89 078 949 710).

1.2   By submitting an entry, entrants agree to these Terms and Conditions.

1.3   The Coalition of Peaks reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or to suspend or cancel the competition if events beyond its control affect its conduct.

1.4   Entry to this competition is free.

 

2. Eligibility 

2.1   The competition is open to all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people residing in Australia, except as outlined in clause 2.2.

2.2   Employees of the Coalition of Peaks Secretariat and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation are not eligible to enter.

 

3. How to Enter

3.1   Entries open on 6 May 2025 and close at 11:59 pm on 13 June 2025 (AEST).

3.2   To enter, participants must:

  • Submit their photograph(s) to the Peaks Photo Competition through the website entry form.

  • Create a folder with your first and last name and submit your entry there.

  • Include details for each photograph submitted.

3.3   Entrants may submit up to 5 photographs; however, only one prize will be awarded per person.

3.4   Photographs must be:

  • Original

  • Saved in JPG,  PNG or HEIC format

  • High-resolution (minimum 300 pixels per inch)

  • Greater than 1MB in size

  • Smaller than 10MB in size

 

4. Submission Guidelines

4.1   Photographs must be original work produced by the entrant.

4.2   Photographs must not contain third-party trademarks or copyrighted materials.

4.3   Entrants must obtain the appropriate permissions or talent releases if identifiable people appear in their photographs. Entries must respect individuals’ privacy and must not infringe upon the rights of any person.

4.4   Photographs must not contain watermarks, logos, or branding.

4.5   Entries must not plagiarise or copy any other work.

4.6   Entries must be relevant to one or more of the competition themes:

  • Country and Culture

  • Nature

  • Community

  • Leadership

  • Transformation 


5. Judging

5.1   Initial judging will be conducted by members of the Coalition of Peaks secretariat.

5.2   Shortlisted entries will be presented to the Coalition of Peaks leadership for final selection and endorsement.

5.3   Entries will be judged based on:

  • Relevance to the competition themes

  • Composition

  • Creativity

  • Overall impact

  • Originality

5.4   The judges’ decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.


6. Prizes

6.1   Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • First Prize: $1,500

  • Second Prize: $1,000

  • Up to 20 Highly Commended Prizes: $150 each (licensing fee for selected use) 

6.2   Winners will be contacted via email and announced on Coalition of Peaks' social media and communication platforms.

6.3   The Coalition of Peaks will work with the winners to arrange delivery of prizes.


7. Rights and Usage

7.1   Entrants retain full copyright in their photographs.

7.2   By entering, entrants grant the Coalition of Peaks a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual licence to use their submitted images for:

  • The Coalition of Peaks website, social media, and promotional materials

  • Publications, reports, and communications supporting Closing the Gap work

  • Media releases or public exhibitions (where appropriate)

7.3   The Coalition of Peaks is not liable for any misuse of images by third parties.

7.4   Submission of an entry does not guarantee its use.
